I had a lot of fun with this piece. I wanted to try out some new techniques and play with layering and washes. This painting features a bright cheery palette reminiscent of traditional birthday cake colors. I was inspired by my childhood youth attending birthday party BBQs in the hot summer sun.

Craters and Constellations by Lauren Hodges
This piece is painted on a cradled birch painting panel. I read that outer space and geometric shapes are projected to be trending in 2015. So, I took that as an artistic challenge and platform for inspiration. I really just had fun with this one. I played with color mixing, texture, geometric lines/shapes, and power tools!
Behind the Waterfalls by Lauren Hodges
I mixed a couple techniques with this painting (Mostly drip and impasto techniques). This abstract piece was inspired by caverns behind waterfalls. I tried to capture the darkness of the cavern with flecks of light shining through the water.

Waves and Red Seaweed by Lauren Hodges

Contoured Strings by Lauren Hodges
This piece is painted on a cradled birch painting panel. It is inspired by my background with the violin. I emphasize on the contour of the strings by using pattern paper for the background and copper wire entwined throughout the piece. I was also inspired by the craft styles of violins. Some of the most beautiful violins I've ever seen have "flamed/curled" maple designs and I wanted to reflect that design style through the texture in the body of the violin.
Pollard Birches and Clay by Lauren Hodges
My recreation of Vincent Van Gogh's Pollard Birches. One of the tree's is recreated in clay, scored, painted, and attached to the drawing to give it a 3D aspect. I really wanted the drawing to push past the dimension of paper.
